Stories that listen.

In The Story is a collection of interactive fiction experiences. Text adventures for readers who want to step inside the narrative and shape what happens next.

What We Believe

The best stories don't just happen to you. They happen with you.

We grew up on text adventures and choose-your-own-adventure books. We loved the feeling of agency, of consequence, of discovering an ending that felt earned because of the choices we made along the way.

But somewhere along the way, interactive fiction got complicated. Pixel-hunting. Inventory puzzles designed to frustrate. Parser games that felt like fighting the computer instead of exploring a world.

We wanted something different. Stories that are genuinely interactive but never punishing. Puzzles that make you think, not suffer. A hint system that helps without spoiling. Multiple endings that feel meaningfully different.

In The Story is our attempt to bring that feeling back. Modern interactive fiction for readers, not gamers. Stories you don't just read. You live.

How It Works

Each story is a self-contained experience you play in your browser. No downloads, no accounts, no tracking. Just you and the story.

You'll type simple commands to interact with the world. LOOK at things. TAKE objects. TALK to characters. The story responds to what you do and remembers the choices you make.

Every story has multiple endings. Some are good. Some are not. All of them are earned by the path you walked to get there.

If you get stuck, type HINT. We'll give you four context-aware suggestions without spoiling what comes next.

Who Makes This

In The Story is a solo project, built with care by someone who loves both literature and interactivity. Each story is written, designed, and coded by hand.

New stories are rare because quality takes time. If you'd like to know when something new launches, leave your email below. No spam. Just stories.
